Dramatis Personae

Characters are listed alphabetically within each section.

Player characters

  • Jes: “A slight woman, no more than 5 feet tall and, despite her tan, unusually fair for these southern lands. Her grey cloak is wrapped around her against the chill breeze and the hood nearly hides her Dovish heritage – large, tufted ears that stick out to the sides of her head.”
    • Jes’ city was conquered by the empire a generation back, and few of her people (who are not all Dovish) have achieved much status.
    • Instead Jes family were pushed out of their artisan jobs and Jes grew up in the slums, stealing things to get by, or for the respect of the other kids.
    • She tried to steal from Elira’s company and was caught - then offered a job.
  • Theophilus (Theo): Hulking, wearing pale grey tunic made of laminated linen. Mardish, one of the mountain folk, which means he has dark grey skin fissured like dry mud and he loves heat. Slave brand on his scalp, cudgel in hand.
    • Theo was raised in a monastery but his neurodivergence meant he never fit in. He is familiar with many religious rituals and still finds comfort in them.
    • He was offered training with a military company, but on the way was captured by bandits.
    • He lived as a bandit for some time, becoming harder and withdrawn.
    • The bandits were attacked by the sheriff’s men, and Theo was tried, branded, and sent far away from his home region to work in a quarry.
    • The quarry was overrun with goblins, and he was rescued by Elira’s adventuring company.

Pilgrims

  • Fana: Killed by the cactus man
  • Tesfaya: Leader of the pilgrims, “Water-bearer”. An old man “dressed in sari of pink and green and holding a staff carved with flowers.”
  • Zema: An old woman, rescued from the Cactus-man.

Zar-Naf

  • Maragon: Priest of the Heron Cult. Sent Jes & Theo to make sure nothing prevents the cactus flower harvest.
  • Sama-Lan: Agent of the Heron Cult who was sent to the oasis before the players and has vanished.
